Sébastien Reeber was born in 1971 in Strasbourg, France, and also studied there. He has been working for the SNPN (Société Nationale de Protection de la Nature/National Society for Nature Protection) since he was 23, at the Lac de Grand-Lieu National Nature Reserve, near Nantes, and he is currently in charge of monitoring birds there (censuses, specific studies and ringing). This lake is one of the main wintering and breeding sites for waterfowl in France and Western Europe, hence his interest in this group. He is also an active birdwatcher, an editorial board member of Ornithos,and has served on the French Rarities Committee since 2006.
