Elephants

Published by Christopher Helm

Since Stone Age man first pictured mammoths in his cave wall graffiti, elephants have long been an endless source of fascination. This volume weaves together recent research with the little known observations of scholars, travellers and those who for centuries have worked with the Asian elephant as a beast of burden. The origins, evolution, anatomy, ecology and behaviour of the both the African and Asian elephant, as well as extinct forms such as the mammoth, are all subjects for discussion, as is the history of the ivory trade and it’s effects upon elephant populations.
